Journey

My work is hypocritical: two-faced.

One face shows the common reality of some distinct moment, the other representing the psychological impact of the same.

Wood and metal wire are the primary materials used in my exploration into dual nature of concepts--ranging from looking at ritual practices to our ideas of family, and the attainment of material possessions as a means of measuring success. These materials possess a physicality that lends itself to further convey the torment presented in my work, or to express a superficial calm that wants to cover the burden of chaos within it. The specific use of such materials requires that I am physically engaged with the work, and thereby asking the viewer to be immersed in the discomfort of the content.

Overall, my intention is to push the level of discomfort experienced by engaging with the piece—from conception, through to its final iteration: asking the viewer to examine their individual practices and how they contribute to the decimation of community, and by virtue of this action, themselves.

Latest Works.

With my work, I explore the ways in which we destroy the notion of community in the name of success and the attainment of our selfish desires. Through a layered approach she looks at our global concepts of success and how those ideas harm rather than sustain us, and the resulting adverse psychological impact.

The works shown are:

Chair and Spear, 2009 (wood)

Threshold, 2009 (wire)

Death Pledge, 2009 (metal and wood)

Sorrow Is Arriving, 2010 (pins, glue, square steel rods)

A few images of our time at the Reception, with more to come.

I want you all to know that I really tried to get as many pictures to post as I could. However, between being pulled here and there and speaking about the work, I discovered that all most pics are on other peoples cameras. So, what I'm sharing with you is only a start, and I will update as soon as I nab them from the official photographer.

I had been dedicated to wearing all black since January, and decided that this day was the day that I contradict myself--In all White. As an artist, I think I was thinking about inhabiting the "white" space the way our work does in museums.

The artists shown:
J. Journey Jones, Kathleen Rojas, her mom and cute little Santiago--her son, The Infamous Chloe Ho, and Laura Mychal

A BIG THANKS!

It is must that I take a moment to thank all of you that were able to attend the reception today. It was a fantastic time, and I'm truly appreciative. And for those that were not able to attend, thanks for your support, and I expect to see you at the next opening!

Most appreciative,
Journey
