My work is hypocritical: two-faced.
One face shows the common reality of some distinct moment, the other representing the psychological impact of the same. Wood and metal wire are the primary materials used in my exploration into dual nature of concepts--ranging from looking at ritual practices to our ideas of family, and the attainment of material possessions as a means of measuring success. These materials possess a physicality that lends itself to further convey the torment presented in my work, or to express a superficial calm that wants to cover the burden of chaos within it. The specific use of such materials requires that I am physically engaged with the work, and thereby asking the viewer to be immersed in the discomfort of the content. Overall, my intention is to push the level of discomfort experienced by engaging with the piece—from conception, through to its final iteration: asking the viewer to examine their individual practices and how they contribute to the decimation of community, and by virtue of this action, themselves.
